Melissa la O’ is a painter living in Makati, Philippines.
Her current practice draws on the nature of inner landscapes as they explore universal ideas of paradise in history and culture.

She was awarded with the Thesis Prize when she graduated with a BArch from SCI Arc, Los Angeles in 1999. After which she continued on to complete an MSAAD at Columbia University in New York.

While attending both schools, she worked on several experimental projects at the architectural office of Michele Saee in Los Angeles. She later went on to open her own Architectural Design practice in Manila. At Independent Studio, projects ranged from several residential buildings in Makati, the ACE Saatchi and Saatchi Headquarters in Makati, Centro Escolar Museum, to writing and art directing the book 100 Wild Plants for CEU, as well as consultancy for architectural projects at AMA, Munich.

Her involvement in painting has never ceased. Her first exhibition was at the Ayala Museum in Makati in 1992, at the age of eighteen, solo shows include Ayala Museum 1995, Finale Art File 2013 and groups shows at Jarmuschek + Partner, 2011, Berlin and A Curious Limbo, 2013, Makati.
